literature

this page is still under construction but for now it will contain my book of the month:

swimming by joanna hershon

this is one of the most well written books i've read in ages. the telling of the story as far as the chronology is concerned is quite creative and unique. the book starts off with two people meeting in a bar. in the next section of the book, time has gone by and these same people are now a married couple with children. a dramatic turn of events between the children takes place. the third section of the book recounts the mission several years later of one of the siblings to find out as much as possible about the event that took place in the second part of the novel. the last section of the book brings the book to an end when the sibling has completed her mission successfully.

i don't want to give many specific details as that would ruin the book for you. just know that the writing style and technique of this writer is superb and you will not be able to put the book down. i was on the edge of my seat whilst reading sections two to four of the book. i find this is a rarity in modern fiction novels.

hershon leaves the reader to figure out some details surrounding the turn of events on his/her own. the reader must decide which character(s) to trust and what his/her ulterior motives are based on the information given. for the most part though, the reader knows the same amount of information as the character(s) in the book. thus, the reader finds out information as the character(s) does. this keeps the reader in suspense and holds the reader's interest.

this book would make a great christmas present for anyone you know who loves a good suspenseful fictional novel! you can buy at amazon.
